LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: We’ve Passed the Public Health Committee!

Excellent news! Thanks to your advocacy, members of the Public Health Committee incorporated our naturopathic language into House Bill 6544, which originally related to genetic testing and prohibiting a company from forwarding personal information about a client to insurance companies.

As we had hoped, HB 6544 passed by the Public Health Committee by a vote of 14 to 11 (we suspect that this would have been a higher number of “yes” votes, but some procedural snafu occurred that had NONE of the republicans on the PHC vote yes. I believe there would have been 3-5 more, FYI.).

Attorneys in the Legislative Commissioners’ Office (LCO) wrote language entitled LCO #6699 (email cnpalegislative@gmail.com for a copy of this text) that keeps genetic testing provisions and adds the Naturopathic formulary.

The bill now goes to the House. CNPA will be in touch asap with our next advocacy push, as we are working closely with our lobbyists to develop our strategy.

Those of you that helped get us this far, I sincerely thank you for your efforts. To those of you who haven’t yet joined our legislative effort, I invite you to do so going forward, and hope you will. We can use all the help we can get.

Many thanks,
Rick Liva, RPh, ND
